“We depend on our surroundings to embody the moods and ideas we respect and then to remind us of them…We need our rooms to align us to desirable versions of ourselves and to keep alive the important, evanescent sides of us.”

Frequently Asked Questions

  • While we love our furry friends, we have a no-pets policy for the convenience of other guests and to help us provide the most sanitary accommodations possible. In the event that guests bring a pet, the credit card on file will be charged a non-refundable fee of USD$450.00 per pet.

  • Each Roots & Realms Retreats property comes equipped with cooking and bakeware, basic cooking condiments, dish and laundry detergent, and basic cleaning supplies.  Our accommodations also include extra bedding, a Pack ‘n Play, and children’s books and games, should you need it.

  • Yes, we can accommodate mid-term stays at Emberwood and Lost City ArtHaus.

  • We require a rental agreement for all of our stays–just like a hotel (though you probably don’t realize it during check-in at a hotel). It simply outlines the house rules, check-in/out details, and helps ensure everything goes smoothly for both of us. It’s a quick read and nothing out of the ordinary, just part of keeping your experience clear and seamless.

  • Biophilic design principles aim to create spaces that foster a connection between humans and nature, promoting well-being and sustainability. These principles are typically organized into three categories: Nature in the Space, Nature of the Space, and Natural Analogues.

  • Neuroaesthetics is a field of study at the intersection of neuroscience and art. This discipline explores how our brains respond to aesthetic experiences and how we react to design, in order to develop a deeper understanding of how our environment affects our mental and physical health.
